Creating a vibrant precinct

Melbourne Quarter will enhance Melbourne’s position as a globally recognised destination, through the creation of a vibrant commercial, residential and cultural precinct integrated into the wider Melbourne Central Business District.

Melbourne Quarter is a key infill development site opposite Southern Cross Station, with frontages to the iconic Melbourne Avenues of both Collins Street and Flinders Street. Batman’s Hill will play a key role in Melbourne’s continued evolution to be regarded as a creative and well-connected 21st Century City.

Key Public Realm Principles:

  • Extend the character of the Melbourne CBD westward, through the development of considered streetscapes and connections through the site
  • Celebrate the historical relevance of Batman’s Hill, through the creation of a permeable new sheltered public space at the level of Collins Street, surrounded by commercial, retail and community uses
  • Encourage walking and cycling through the site, by providing convenient connections and facilities for these users
