HONY Tower – Urban Retreat
The latest public realm and mixed-use development in Shenzhen’s Qianhai district, an urban retreat nestled into the urban fabric with a lush park and an active urban boundary designed by ASPECT Studios.
The project set a new standard in office and residential environment for Shenzhen, with an emphasis on a a environment of the experience of its users, rather than on grandeur and spectacle a place of detail and tactile materiality that stimulates the senses, the landscape design takes this to heart, with a set of outdoor spaces that have a quiet human scale atmosphere and the feeling of being immersed in a biophilic environmental buffered from the busy surroundings and helping to increase the feeing of health and well being created by increased connection to nature.

The design drew on the idea of the landscape being the foundation of the Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates-designed building. Where the tower hits the ground, it passes the baton to the landscape, converting the scale of the built experience into a more human one. The park protects its occupants from the hustle and bustle of the streets by creating a secluded retreat, utilising the planted edges to create a green threshold defined by elegantly detailed active edges, populated with meticulously crafted stone sofas.

At the same time, the municipal roads and a new multi-functional community space are well integrated with the new landscape, making the park a natural extension of the street.
A refined, robust and unified expression of materiality is used consistently throughout the landscape, connecting the human scale sensory horizonal experience with the vertical architectural urban scale expression.
