Warwick Savvas, Senior Associate at ASPECT Studios in Melbourne presented at the annual national conference held by Greenroofs Australasia – ‘Greening Cities’ in Sydney.
The focus of his presentation was ASPECT Studios’ involvement in the design and implementation of Victorian Desalination Project's green roof, at 27,000m² it is the largest in the southern hemisphere. He revealed the complex design process, obstacles overcome, and the innovations that emerged in the highly technical design.
The green roof presents a refreshingly green vision for what could be seen as ecological infrastructure. It deals with the critical issue of visual impact associated with the scale and sensitive location of the Victorian Desalination Project.
International keynote speakers at the conference include Patrick Blanc, Paris, Environmental Designer of ‘The Vertical Garden’, Dusty Gedge, UK, President European Federation of Green Roof Associations, Author, Green Roof Designer, Bruce Hemstock, Canada, Principal Landscape Architect, Project Manager, PWL Partners P/L Vancouver and Charles Sinkler, USA, Principal, Apex Greenroofs, Boston.
