ASPECT Studios Melbourne wins 3 major awards at 2016 AILA VIC AWARDS

They say good things come in threes and in the case of the 2016 AILA VIC Awards we certainly do not disagree!

On Thursday 28th July, we were honoured to receive awards at the 2016 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects – Victorian Chapter Awards presentation in Melbourne for three separate projects. This is a massive achievement for our entire Melbourne studio, the Urban & Public and the Digital teams.   Our first win was the Civic Landscape Award for Excellence, which was awarded to Junction Place, Wodonga. Junction Place, the new precinct heart of Wodonga, is a project that was driven by Places Victoria and the City of Wodonga over many years. It was initiated when the railway line was removed from the centre of the town, leaving a large area of train heritage and infrastructure for transformation into a new urban precinct.   We would like to thank Places Victoria and City of Wodonga as well as local Wodonga landscape architect Mathew Fleet in supporting and delivering this project.   NEWS_AM_VIC-AILA-Awards_lv3_Junction_809w Junction Place, Wodonga   Next came the Infrastructure Award for Excellence, which was given to the Victorian Desalination Plant & Ecological Reserve. The Victorian Desalination Plant is critical infrastructure for climate adaption and is one of the largest such investments in Australia’s history. The 225 ha Ecological Reserve camouflages the Plant through a 26000m2 green roof and a dune system, which evolved from spoil. It transforms degraded land into mosaics of coastal and swampy woodlands, wetlands and dune ecologies, reconnects remnants and provides rich visitor experience. Naturally, this project was a huge team effort so we would like to acknowledge and thank our client/the developer AquaSure, the Architecture team at peckvonhartel/ARM Architecture, the engineering team at Parsons Brinckerhoff/Beca, along with Fytogreen Australia for delivering the green roof and Practical Ecology for their Ecological consulting on the project.   NEWS_AM_VIC_AILA Awards_lv3_Desal_809w_2 Victorian Desalination Plant and Ecological Reservee   The third award came in the form of the Civic Landscape Architecture Award, which was handed to Windsor Plaza. This project saw us work to develop more public space including a new “village square” reclaimed from the realignment of roads and a shared street and urban plaza. This was a great project that was only possible through the work and support of the great team at City of Stonnington.
