ASPECT Studios wins major awards at the AILA NSW Awards 2010

ASPECT Studios has received three awards at the AILA NSW Awards 2010. ‘The Medal’ is the highest award given, and the latest addition to a stream of awards for Pirrama Park, one of Sydney’s most loved waterfront parks.   The former Water Police headquarters in Pyrmont has been transformed into a multi-use 1.8 hectare harbour-side park. It sets a benchmark for public open spaces and enhances interaction with the water edge. Significant features are its sandstone artefacts, innovative playground, shoreline promenade and sustainable credentials. Jury citation: Pirrama Park is another ‘jewel’ in the City of Sydney’s network of harbour-side public parks. ASPECT Studios have, with Pirrama Park, substantially added to the emerging strength of the landscape architecture profession to create these distinctive gems through fusing the aesthetic, the functional and environmental sustainable design practice.   ASPECT Studios in collaboration with Derlot Studio, Herbert & Mason also won the AILA NSW Awards 2010 award for Design for The Meeting Place – Laneways: By George! Hidden Networks. This was a playfully designed temporary architectural installation and social experiment which brought to life Little Hunter Street, one of Sydney’s laneways and created social interaction. Jury citation: “a contemporary, original solution and, while only a temporary installation, there are lessons in this for the remaking of our cities into more human, relevant and sustainable places.”   The AILA NSW Future Leaders Graduate Landscape Architect Award was received by Lauren Nissen, a highly valued member of the ASPECT Studios team. Jury citation: “Lauren is a worthy recipient of the Future Leaders Graduate Award. Her work clearly demonstrates design intelligence and strong communication, collaboration, technical and graphic skills. Lauren’s talents and capabilities were evident at student level, having the honour of one of her student designs built.” Lauren has represented ASPECT Studios in its joint venture with Oculus on Victoria Harbour Master Plan, a major project in the Melbourne Docklands, and has worked on the award winning Pirrama Park.
