ASPECT Studios Sydney takes on the role of lead consultant/landscape architect to revitalise Campbell Parade, Bondi, the streetscape along this iconic stretch of Sydney coastline. Campbell Parade provides the street address to the world famous Bondi Beach, where the urban edge meets the coastal fringe. It’s the starting point for the popular Bondi to Coogee Coast Walk, and the annual Sculpture by the Sea festival — both attracting thousands each year. One of the criticisms of Campbell Parade is this public domain is the dominance of cars. The ASPECT Studios plan will prioritise the renewed Campbell Parade as a ‘Pedestrian First’ place, that inherently belongs to the thousands of locals and international tourists who use this beach daily.

Potential outcome“Our approach recognises that Campbell Parade has been a continuously evolving place since its establishment,” says Jessica Hodge, Senior Associate ASPECT Studios Sydney. “So our ambition is to make the boulevard a celebratory platform for the theatre of life, and beach culture. We envisage a living, changing ecosystem, that contributes to the social, environmental and economic future of Bondi. An extension of the beach, and a representation of the Bondi identity." ASPECT Studios was awarded the project by Waverley Council through an open tender announced in May 2018. The commission includes setting Vision and Principles, Site Analysis, Concept Design, Community Engagement, Detailed Design, Documentation and Delivery. ASPECT Studios Sydney has completed Phase 1 (site analysis), and commenced Phase 2 (design work), which continues (alongside community consultation) into early 2019. Construction is expected to start after May 2018, and be staged progressively.
