Calder Freeway – Kyneton to Ravenswood Section

ASPECT Studios was commissioned to undertake a landscape planning study and concept design for 44 kilometres of freeway between Melbourne and Bendigo, between the towns of Kyneton and Ravenswood.

The landscape planning study examined multiple corridors and subsequent election of the preferred route through rural and township landscapes. A formal environmental effects statement was prepared and submitted to the state government and ASPECT Studios appeared as an expert witness at the planning tribunal. A unique methodology for analysis and assessment was created to provide objective based assessment results into the overall VicRoads infrastructure assessment process to determine the best locations for the freeway section.

Following feedback from the local community, VicRoads and other stakeholders, ASPECT Studios undertook the concept design for the preferred options. This formed the design basis for the design and construct tenders. The concept plan involved addressing urban design issues, general mitigation, habitat and conservation values and significant heritage landscape and features.
