Mosman Signage Review & Wayfinding Strategy

ASPECT Studios was engaged by the City of Mosman to review its municipal signage and to determine the best way to update it. The existing signage lacked relevant information, poorly applied the council brand, and its placement lacked impact and practicality.

ASPECT’s response was a comprehensive signage system that would withstand and celebrate Mosman’s unique coastal location. A hardy palette of timber, anodized metal framing and aluminium substrate was chosen both for its ability to whether challenging conditions and for its resonance with the area’s human and environmental history.
A series of unique patterns were developed for each sign location typology: urban, park and coastal. These patterns were carved into the timber framing, printed onto sign fronts, and perforated into large aluminium panels which create tactile links to periods in local architectural and maritime history.
