Yagan Square
Yagan Square is an ambitious urban destination that occupies a challenging site. A central part of the Perth City Link Project, the square reconnects the CBD with Northbridge for the first time in more than a century. Perth’s newest major public space is a place to have fun, meet, play, eat and shop.
ASPECT Studios, in collaboration with Lyons (lead) and Iredale Pedersen Hook architects, won the competition to design this city-shaping space with a concept that responds to the vision of Yagan Square as an inclusive, welcoming and active cultural and civic destination. The resulting square embodies the characteristics of the local area, Perth and Western Australia more broadly.

Central to the concept are ideas of convergence: of geologies, tracks, narratives, of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people within the Square itself.
Wildflower gardens showcase the unique and diverse qualities of Western Australia flora and landscape. Visitors can see a variety of eucalyptus species found in Perth and across the State. The planted gardens work to heighten and reveal the seasonal characteristics and colours of Western Australia.

Water also plays a major part in the story of Yagan Square and a unique feature has been developed with artist Jon Tarry. As a sequence of connected elements, the water feature provides a physical and experiential enhancement to the public landscape, encouraging the visitor to look, touch, feel and enjoy.
