The Ian Stromborg Play Space at Paul Keating Park has been recognised as a “vibrant addition to the heart of Bankstown” with a Landscape Architecture Award in the Play Spaces category in @AILA’s 2025 NSW Landscape Architecture Awards.
The jury cited the project for providing a “colourful, energetic and inclusive play space for a culturally diverse community, incorporating water and nature-based play and important gathering space as part of the urban transformation and regeneration of Central Bankstown.”
The design reveals Bankstown’s cultural and natural heritage, from First Nations stories to migration patterns and contemporary life. The play space engages the senses and introduces children to the local Cumberland Plains woodland and Turpentine-Ironbark forests through interactive, nature-based elements.
