A counterpoint to Docklands' windswept, imposing character, the Victoria Harbour Precinct delivers a fine grain public realm network of streets, laneways, play spaces and courtyards. Buluk Park is significant urban square that functions as the new community and retail hub for the Docklands. The space connects Victoria Harbour, the City Library and community centre with each other and public transport interchanges. The central lawn is edge by large decks and trees, in which urban activities will occur, such as play, gathering, markets and events.
The Docklands’ cultural and industrial heritage have been threaded throughout the Precinct. Contextual materials, like stone finishes and retained wharf objects, have been woven into street furniture and hardscapes. Wharf timbers give a visual identity to the expansive public spaces that comprise Buluk Park, and large-scale site-specific integrated public artworks interpret, reveal and amplify the site’s history.
