In recent weeks, the NSW Government-funded Allianz Stadium opened its gates for the first time since the completion of its redevelopment.

One of the unsung heroes of the project is the removal of the previous barriers and fences, the creation of new public places, and the integration of the surrounding urban environment. People are being invited through the precinct for the first time in years.

We’d love to share with you a bit of the process involved in the landscape architecture and urban design of this project that our Sydney team were involved in. The public realm represents a new and significant update in the way stadiums are framed. The Stadium is surrounded by green public domain and increased amenity with environmental benefits. Featuring new public spaces for locals to utilise, such as a children’s playground and an activated forecourt to the stadium, the project delivers an amazing platform for sports of international standard, as well as a vital space for locals to use on daily outside of event times.

The Allianz Stadium contributes and complements the rich fabric of public spaces found in the Moore Park and Paddington precincts and embeds into its surrounding context. This stitches together the neighbourhood areas around the Stadium, a contrast to how stadiums have previously been ideated as standalone areas only used during events.

We’re thrilled to see this project opened for public use and being able to visit it ourselves to see the end results of our designs was truly special.
