The GreenWay
ASPECT Studios, in collaboration with Gartner Rose, delivered the design and construction of the most complex section of the 6km GreenWay, transforming fragmented infrastructure land into a continuous active transport and ecological corridor between the Cooks River and Iron Cove.

Spanning 2km, this section navigates significant physical constraints, with paths cantilevering over canals, passing beneath bridges, tunnelling through abutments and weaving alongside the light rail corridor to create a seamless pedestrian and cycling connection.
Originally envisioned more than 25 years ago by local community advocates, the GreenWay fulfils a long-standing aspiration for an environmental, cultural and sustainable transport corridor along the former Dulwich Hill Goods Line. Today, it responds to growing demands for open space, biodiversity and active transport infrastructure across Sydney’s Inner West.
The project enhances connectivity between neighbourhoods, parks and transport nodes while creating a rich and inclusive public realm.
Destinational and incidental play, spaces for recreation and respite, and opportunities for cultural engagement support a diverse range of users and activities.
Public art is embedded throughout the corridor, including 'Ngaraora' by First Nations artist Jasmin Sarin at Gadigal Reserve, where storytelling is integrated into nature-based play.

Key community destinations were revitalised, including Johnson Park, which now features a renewed playground, upgraded sporting facilities and the retention of the much-loved rocket ship play structure.
Throughout the corridor, new pathways follow established desire lines, while mature vegetation, heritage elements and bushcare areas have been carefully retained.

As a critical ecological corridor, the GreenWay strengthens biodiversity through extensive habitat restoration, endemic planting, wetlands and biofiltration systems.
More than 500 trees were planted to expand urban canopy and improve local microclimates.
Existing materials and infrastructure were repurposed wherever possible, including the reuse of excavated sandstone and refurbishment of play and fitness equipment.

The result is a resilient public landscape that reconnects communities, supports biodiversity and celebrates the ecological, cultural and industrial stories of place.
