Earlier this year, the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) launched a competition to reimagine the Sculpture Garden as an innovative outdoor art gallery that honors the Australian landscape, the nation’s capital, and the NGA’s mission to make art accessible and meaningful for diverse audiences both locally and internationally.
ASPECT Studios' Sydney team proposed a concept centered on a pathway that honours First Nations values. The design for the new sculpture garden features a circular storytelling route that invites visitors to connect deeply with the environment through water, mist, and native planting. Signature spaces, like a waterfront pavilion and vibrant seasonal gardens, foster moments for gathering and reflection.

The concept celebrates Australia’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, bringing people and art together in an evolving landscape of connection and belonging.
