COHL Hangzhou B Development
Located on the banks of the Qiantang River, this project oversees the coming and going of ships set against the backdrop of Hangzhou’s old town. ASPECT Studios’ design for the landscape of this multi-use development took inspiration from that vista, which takes the form of a gradient of colour and structure to extend the river onto the site.
Landscape elements along the central axis, including water features, seats and planters are scattered in a playful, semi-random fashion to grant the space a fluidity that reflects the river. The design delineates areas for passive and active use, including sunny lawns, sheltered seating areas and pedestrian gathering spaces, to generate social interaction and stimulate activity for the businesses on site.
A strong gridded pavement scheme unifies the site and is extends the architecture into the public sphere.
