A mixed-use development in Hong Kong that transforms tree retention into a defining design strategy has been recognised at the Green Building Awards 2025, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council and the Professional Green Building Council.

At the heart of the SHKP Sai Yee Street master plan are existing ancient Ficus trees. Their protection zones established the primary organising framework for the project, informing hardscape extents, circulation routes and activity areas. Rather than treating these significant trees as constraints, the design team used them to structure the spatial logic of the development, safeguarding their long-term health while grounding the scheme in a distinctive and authentic sense of place.

From this foundation, a cascading landscape unfolds from street to skyline. Public ground plane spaces extend upward into an elevated urban eco park above Mong Kok East Station, transition into community gardens, and culminate in a publicly accessible observation deck at the tower’s summit.

The project received a Merit Award in the New Buildings—Projects Under Construction and Design (Commercial) category. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and sharing more as the project progresses.
