The ramp improves safety and capacity while strengthening connections to the wider cycling network and enhancing access to Bradfield Park. Its serpentine form minimises visual impact through lightness, transparency and fluidity, while meeting rigorous engineering, sustainability and maintenance requirements.
The project’s public domain outcomes extend beyond cyclists. New footpaths, crossings and a generous paved plaza create a welcoming community space with seating, water and bike repair facilities, supporting everyday commuters and visitors alike. Together, these elements establish a new benchmark for cycling infrastructure in a sensitive heritage setting and signal a confident vision for Sydney’s transport future.
For Jason Packenham, Project Lead at ASPECT Studios, the ramp is about more than bikes. “It is an investment in the public life of Sydney—opening one of our country’s most iconic urban cycling journeys to people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. It transforms a ride across the Harbour Bridge into an experience locals can be proud of and visitors can stand in awe of, while telling a story of Country with care and sensitivity within the Bridge's significant heritage setting.”
ASPECT Studios is proud to have led a design collaboration that comprised ASPECT Studios (urban design and landscape architecture), Collins and Turner (architecture), Design 5 (heritage interpretation), Eckersley O’Callaghan (industrial design and engineering), Yerrabingin (First Nations consultation), Stantec (engineering), Electrolight (lighting design), Madwings (art).
