Transforming a football club's home into a community recreation space

Refined and enlivened entrances from key approaches link into a circuitous path that reinstates movement around the perimeter of the ground. The former seating bays of the Rush Terraces are transformed into sheltered gathering points encompassed by a boulevard of trees that reflect the existing shape of the removed stand. The remaining areas are upgraded to allow both informal and safe use.

The former home of the Collingwood Football Club has been returned to the public and opened up to the streets of Abbotsford.

The objective of the Victoria Park Oval Master Plan initiated by the City of Yarra is to transform the former home of the Collingwood Football Club into a community place that caters for both current sport scheduling, and as a venue of passive and active events for the local and wider community.

This considered transformation of elements and facilities essential to the cultural heritage of the site, retain the essential feel of a once feared arena, whilst overlaying a new agenda.
