The 2024 WA Landscape Architecture Awards were held over the weekend, and it was great to be able to attend. The awards celebrate excellence in landscape architecture projects across the state, and we're so proud to have been recognised for three awards.

Kalgoorlie City Centre won the Regional Achievement Award, the Civic Landscape Architecture Award as well as the Tourism Landscape Architecture Award.

The jury said,

This is a deeply considered response to the cultural and economic challenges of the site. The project explores the cavernous depths of Kalgoorlie’s unique character (mining, climate, people), yet responds in a fresh and contemporary way. The built work is a celebration of the region, using a rich palette of materials and plants, as well as playful elements and curated artworks to redefine the identity of the town centre and imbue community in the very heart of Kal.

The transformed town centre reflects the energy and character of Kalgoorlie, and will support economic development and trade by attracting locals, tourist and new businesses to its historic and commercial heart.

Thank you to AILA WA a and congratulations to our team and collaborators Iredale Pedersen Hook, Griffiths Architects , ETC Solutions, Tabec, Terpkos, Cundall, RBB, as well as the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder for prioritising the long-term development of Kalgoorlie. The project now proceeds to the National Landscape Architecture Awards held later this year.
