Sturt Reserve Master Plan

Date: Apr 21, 2022
Category: New projects
04 HISTORY
A transformation for South Australia’s Rural City of Murray Bridge riverfront is on the way, as the Sturt Reserve Master Plan Design Development we prepared in collaboration with TERROIR and Mulloway Studio has been adopted.

The plan re-imagines the Council’s premier open space and will significantly enhance visitor’s experiences. Located on Ngarrindjeri Country, the plan will reinforce the destination as a tourist and recreational hub that celebrates the area’s rich cultural heritage.

Reconnecting Sturt Reserve to the town centre, the river and destinations beyond was essential – all whilst prioritising pedestrian and cyclist movement, developing intuitive wayfinding and identifying opportunities for innovative interpretation.

The plan focusses on the adaptive reuse of industrial site features and fostering a sustainable ecology. A river pool for swimming influenced by historical elements will feature in the play precinct and new areas woven throughout the reserve will act as natural points to gather and celebrate.

The first stage of the ‘Recreation Precinct’ was completed in early 2021, while subsequent stages of works continue to progress including the exciting enhancement of the heritage wharf and tourism precinct.
