As landscape architects, we’re engaged in a constant search for the best ways to use representation as part of the design process and the full environmental, social and political context in which they take place.

It was an honour, then, to be included in Representing Landscapes: One Hundred Years of Visual Communication – a comprehensive survey of how the key practitioners in landscape architecture have developed, challenged and shaped how our shared discipline is understood.

The ASPECT Studios contribution, written with Dr. Jillian Walliss of the University of Melbourne, examines the different techniques our studios use to develop and represent their designs – from Melbourne’s industry-leading use of digital design to Shanghai’s use of sketch diagrams. For ASPECT Studios, these representative techniques are a key part of the design process itself.

This sits alongside a collection of intriguing essays and a rich catalogue of images that unpack how the landscape can be presented. Representing Landscapes is out now from Routledge.
