ASPECT insights

We are incredibly humbled to have received multiple awards at the 2018 AILA Victoria Awards in the categories of:

Small Projects – Tarrawarra Abbey

Community Contribution – Livvi’s Place Craigieburn

Research, Policy and Communications – Monash University Civil Engineering Hydraulics Living Lab

Each of these projects demonstrate our ongoing commitment to delivering outcomes which challenge and delight whilst enhancing the lives of people and natural systems in an enduring way.

Tarrawarra Abbey Green Roof

ASPECT Studios in collaboration with Baldasso Cortese were engaged to assist the Franciscan Monks with the provision of a Multi Purpose Building and Fire Shelter at Tarrawarra Abbey.

As a response to the potential threat on extreme weather days, the green roof to this building can be wet-up via the sub soil irrigation system using site captured water with a pump on generator power supply. On hot days the monks can retreat into the building and be afforded a degree of refuge.

The roof is an extensive green roof / indigenous roof garden on a 200mm depth substrate.

Livvi's Place Craigieburn

Livvi's Place is an inclusive play space within Craigieburn ANZAC Park delivered by Hume City Council as part of SPLASH Aqua Park and Aquatic Centre, and SPRINT Athletics Track, creating an iconic, regional leisure and recreational destination.

ASPECT Studios worked in collaboration with the Touched by Olivia Foundation, whose mission is to advocate for an inclusive society, by working with councils, communities and corporations in the development of inclusive play spaces across the country.

As part of developing the design, consultation was undertaken with local school children and the families of children with disabilities, providing our design team a greater understanding of their special needs as well as recognising its benefits for young adults with disabilities.

The delivered outcome saw an integration of shelters, barbeques and adjacent amenities and each space, element and experience has been crafted to promote inclusivity, from the accessible slides, sand table, carousel, birds nest slide, friendship chair, interactive panels and music elements. Livvi’s Place truly allows families and children a place to meet, socialise, relax, play and be part of the broader community.

ASPECT Studios, in collaboration with DesignInc and Irwinconsult on a refurbishment of Monash University’s Hydraulics Laboratory, for the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

The overarching objective of the project was to transform the Keller Hydraulics Laboratory into a living laboratory, showcasing specialised bio-filtration and water treatment systems to industry, peers, researchers, and the general public. The ‘Living Lab’ is a flexible platform for testing technologies required to create a water sensitive city and showcases Monash University’s outstanding research and demonstrates the motivation for water harvesting and recycling.

A big congratulations to Timothy D'Agostino for being recognised at the 2018 Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Victorian Awards as a Future Leader of our industry.

Tim is a talented landscape architect based in our Melbourne studio. We recognise Tim's dedication and efforts that he applies to all of his projects and his ongoing contribution to ASPECT Studios.
